Pain Management Guidelines

Anti-inflammatory Medications (NSAIDs)

• Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin): Take 400-800mg every 6-8 hours with food
• Naproxen (Aleve): Take 220-500mg every 12 hours with food
• Maximum daily doses: Ibuprofen 2400mg; Naproxen 1000mg

Pain Relievers (if prescribed)

• Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Take 650-1000mg every 6 hours
• Maximum daily dose: 3000mg

Important Instructions

Timing

1. Take medications at consistent times
2. Do not skip doses during initial treatment
3. Always take with food to prevent stomach upset

Safety Precautions

• Never exceed recommended daily doses
• Report any unusual symptoms to your doctor
• Inform your doctor of other medications

Ice/Heat Application

• Apply ice for 15-20 minutes every 2-3 hours during first 48 hours
• After 48 hours, use heat before exercise and ice after

When to Contact Your Doctor

• Severe pain not relieved by medication
• Unusual swelling or redness
• Fever or chills
• Stomach pain or bleeding
